  Career Opportunities

The third wave powered by high-technology offers unlimited opportunities for careers which are rewarding in every sense of the word.   As an electrical engineer, you can contribute to the astounding innovations in medical diagnostics, treatment and care; help the blind see, the deaf hear, and the paralyzed walk.  You can contribute to exciting developments in strategic defense initiatives and the exploration of space; help insure the survival of the nation, the world, and humanity.  You can contribute to the amazing advances in factory, office, home, and automobile design; help improve the quality of life of family, friends, and people throughout the world.

The space era has brought with it many important developments, discoveries and problems for electrical engineers to turn to man's benefit.  Their biggest challenges lie in the fields of energy production and pollution reduction.  There is important work to be done, for example, in magnetohydrodynamics, the conversion of sea water to a non-polluting electrical energy.  Other special opportunities are available: in bionics, in the development of biological electronic instruments and life support equipment and in research . . . in aerospace, in the formulation of light control systems . . . in the power industry, where demands being placed upon power distribution networks are ever-increasing... in communications, in designing faster, smaller, more accurate and more versatile transmitting and receiving equipment . . . in solid state electronics . . . in computer logic . . . in ecological engineering ... in control of svstems . . . in solar energy engineering.

Through the Office of Career Services electrical engineers graduating from YSU typically have the opportunity to interview on campus with prospective employers.  Starting salaries have always met the national average for graduating electrical engineers.
