RESEARCH
Civil Engineering faculty members conduct research on a variety of
topics related to their areas of expertise. The most common mode for
student participation in research is the Master’s thesis. Graduate
students pursuing the thesis option work under the supervision of a
primary thesis advisor to conduct a major research project, earning six
semester hours of academic credit. Undergraduate students can also gain
research experience working for faculty members in Civil Engineering or
other departments on funded research projects.
YSU has several programs to promote student involvement in research. For
example, the College of Graduate Studies and Research offers Research
Assistantship and Undergraduate Research grants. In addition, students
are encouraged to present the results of their research at QUEST, an
annual two-day research symposium held on the YSU campus.
Students interested in learning more about current research
opportunities in Civil Engineering are encouraged to contact the
Department Chair, Dr. Scott Martin.
