THE YSU STUDENT CHAPTER

What is the SAC? The acronym stands for Student Activities Conference.

Since YSU IEEE is an official student chapter of IEEE, we participate in this conference every year. Different schools host this annual event which is filled with competitions (with monetary prizes), lectures and great fun!

This past year YSU IEEE went to Williamsport, PA for a weekend to compete in two of the five activities: Professional Ethics and the “Brown Bag” competitions. We placed 2nd in 16 schools in the “Brown Bag” event. In 2007, YSU placed 1st and was the only college to finish the event!

Well, what the heck are these competitions? Great question! There are a few different events depending on what the “host” school can provide. The professional ethics competition is based on the IEEE Code of Ethics. The “Brown Bag” is the most popular event. It involves hardware and software skills. There is also the MicroMouse, the Project showcase, and the research paper.

This year Youngstown State University has the honor of hosting the SAC this coming April 17th and 18th of 2009. The preparation of this conference actually started this past May and will continue until the day of the conference is over.

This is a great opportunity to get involved with IEEE. Also, by being involved, you can add your help in this even to your resume. Employers in industry know of IEEE and many were student members back when they were in college. When they see this on your resume, they can connect with you! It may make the difference in someone remembering your name out of 100 other applicants!
